Suppress contacts from receiving messages
Suppression is the account-wide "do not contact" list. When a subscriber's address is on it, they are excluded from every Broadcast, regardless of which audience or Folder the Edition targets. Use it to honor opt-outs, remove role or spam-trap addresses, and keep problem addresses from ever being mailed again.
Before you begin
- You need permission to manage audiences or account settings for your account.
- Have the exact email addresses (or a list to upload) ready.
- Know that suppression overrides audience membership: a suppressed address stays on your lists but is skipped at send time.
- Suppression is different from deleting a subscriber. Suppress to guarantee they are never mailed; delete only to remove their record entirely.
Steps
- Open the audience or account area and go to the suppression list. (confirm the exact steps in your account)
- Choose to add addresses, then either enter them one per line or upload a file of addresses.
- Optionally add a note or reason (for example, "manual opt-out" or "hard bounce") so the entry is traceable later.
- Save. The addresses are added immediately and take effect on the next Broadcast.
- To remove someone, find the address on the list and delete its entry — only do this if you have permission to contact them again.
Result
The addresses now appear on your suppression list and are automatically skipped from every future Broadcast. Unsubscribes and repeated hard bounces are typically added here automatically, so you can also use this list to audit who is being excluded and why.
