Add or remove subscribers from a list
A static list holds a fixed set of subscribers that changes only when you add or remove them by hand (or by import). This is different from a dynamic segment, which updates itself from rules. Use a static list when you want full control over exactly who is included — for example, a curated pilot group, an event invite list, or a manually managed VIP audience.
Before you begin
- Confirm you have permission to edit the target list, and that it is a static list (not a rule-based segment).
- Know how you'll identify subscribers — usually by email address, or by a unique subscriber ID from your source system.
- For bulk changes, prepare a clean file (typically CSV) with one subscriber per row and a header for the email column.
- Check your account's suppression list first, so you don't try to add addresses that are globally suppressed. (Confirm the exact steps in your account.)
Steps
- Open the Audiences area and select the static list you want to change.
- To add one subscriber, choose the add-subscriber action and enter their email address (plus any required fields), then save.
- To add many at once, use the import option and upload your prepared file, mapping the email column and any other fields when prompted.
- To remove a single subscriber, find them in the list and choose the remove-from-list action.
- To remove many, either select multiple rows and remove them, or import a file using the remove/unsubscribe-from-list mode. (Confirm the exact steps in your account.)
- Review the confirmation summary showing how many subscribers were added, removed, or skipped (for example, duplicates or suppressed addresses).
Result
The list's subscriber count reflects your changes, and added subscribers appear when you browse or search the list. Removing someone from a static list only takes them off that list — it does not unsubscribe them from your account or add them to the suppression list. To stop all mail to an address everywhere, use account-wide suppression instead.
