Build your first audience and send a Broadcast

Follow an end-to-end walkthrough from importing subscribers to sending your first Broadcast.

What you'll build

By the end of this tutorial you'll have a working audience of subscribers, an Edition built and ready to send, and a completed Broadcast delivered to that audience. You'll also know where to find early delivery and engagement numbers so you can confirm the send worked.

Before you begin

  • Access to an account where you can create audiences and build Editions (Author permissions).
  • A small list of subscribers to import — a spreadsheet with at least an email address column, plus any fields you want to personalize on (first name, company, and so on).
  • Consent to email everyone on the list. Only import subscribers who have opted in.
  • A simple message in mind for your first Edition. Keep it short for this first run.

Steps

  1. Create an audience. In the audiences area, create a new audience and give it a clear name (for example, "First test audience"). (confirm the exact steps in your account.)
  2. Import your subscribers. Upload your spreadsheet and map each column to a subscriber field — at minimum, map the email address. Review the import summary for skipped or duplicate rows before finishing.
  3. Verify the audience. Open the audience and confirm the subscriber count and a few sample records look right. Fix any mapping issues by re-importing if needed.
  4. Build an Edition. In a Project Folder, create a new Edition, add your subject line and a short body, and insert a personalization token (such as first name) to see it fill in per subscriber.
  5. Preview and send a test. Send yourself a test to check formatting and that tokens resolve. Adjust anything that looks off.
  6. Send the Broadcast. Choose your new audience as the recipients, review the summary, and send the Broadcast (or schedule it).
  7. Check results. After a few minutes, open the Broadcast's report to see delivered, opens, and clicks.

Result

Your subscribers are stored as a reusable audience, and your first Edition has gone out as a Broadcast with live delivery and engagement metrics you can track.
