Delete or remove a subscriber
Permanently delete a subscriber or remove them from your audience when required — for example, to honor a data-erasure request or clean up a test record.
Decide which action you actually need first:
- Remove from an audience keeps the subscriber's record but takes them out of one list or segment. They can still be reached from other audiences.
- Delete permanently erases the subscriber record and its history. This is irreversible and usually reserved for erasure ("right to be forgotten") requests.
- Do not use delete to stop future email. To keep someone from receiving Broadcasts while preserving compliance history, add them to the suppression list instead.
Before you begin
- Confirm you have permission to manage subscribers (an admin role is typically required for permanent deletion).
- Have the exact email address or subscriber ID so you act on the correct record.
- Understand that permanent deletion also removes that subscriber's reporting history, which can affect past Broadcast counts. (Confirm the exact behavior in your account.)
Steps
- Open the audience or subscriber area and search for the subscriber by email address or ID.
- Open the subscriber's record to verify it is the correct person.
- To take them out of one list, choose remove from this audience. To erase the record entirely, choose delete permanently. (Confirm the exact labels in your account.)
- Confirm the action in the prompt. Permanent deletion usually requires an extra confirmation.
Result
If you removed them, the subscriber no longer appears in that audience but still exists elsewhere. If you deleted them, the record and its history are gone and cannot be recovered.
