Track Links in an SMS Message

Turn on click tracking and shortening for links sent in an SMS Broadcast.

Link tracking replaces each link in your SMS with a short, trackable URL. This keeps messages within tight character limits and lets you measure which subscribers clicked, so click totals appear in your reports alongside your email metrics.

Before you begin

  • An SMS Edition ready to send, with at least one link in the message body.
  • Confirm your account is enabled for SMS sending and that link tracking is available on your plan.
  • Decide whether every link should be tracked or only specific ones — some links (for example, an opt-out or a legal notice) may be better left untracked. (Confirm the exact steps in your account.)

Steps

  1. Open the SMS Edition you want to send and go to its content or message settings.
  2. Locate the link tracking (and link shortening) option for the message. (Confirm the exact label and location in your account.)
  3. Turn tracking on. When enabled, links are automatically shortened and rewritten as trackable URLs at send time.
  4. If you want to exclude a specific link, mark that link as untracked so it sends as its original URL.
  5. Send a test to your own phone and confirm the shortened link opens the correct destination.
  6. Schedule or send the Broadcast.

Result

When subscribers tap a tracked link, the click is recorded and the short URL redirects to your original destination. After the Broadcast is sent, click activity appears in the message's report, where you can see total clicks and which links drew the most engagement.
