Apply UTM Tags Automatically to Every Link
Set default analytics tags that are added to all links in an Edition without editing each one, so every click lands in your web analytics with consistent campaign attribution.
Before you begin
- Decide which UTM parameters you want to standardize. Most teams set
utm_source,utm_medium, andutm_campaign, and leaveutm_contentorutm_termfor per-link overrides. - Agree on naming conventions with whoever reads your web analytics (for example, always lowercase, no spaces). Inconsistent values fragment your reports.
- Open the Edition you want to tag, or the account/Folder-level tracking settings if you want the defaults to apply more broadly. (Confirm the exact location of these settings in your account.)
- If you use personalization, you can insert tokens into a tag value so it varies by Broadcast or subscriber — see the personalization reference below.
Steps
- Open the Edition's link or tracking settings and find the option for default UTM (analytics) parameters. (Confirm the exact menu path in your account.)
- Enter a value for each parameter you want applied automatically, for example
utm_source=email,utm_medium=email, and a campaign name forutm_campaign. - Choose how the tags apply — typically to all trackable links in the Edition. Decide whether individual links may override these defaults.
- Save the settings. The parameters are appended to link URLs when the Edition is sent, not stored inside every link you edit.
- Send a test or preview to yourself and click a link to verify the tags appear.
Result
Every trackable link in the Edition carries your UTM parameters when a subscriber clicks, without you editing each URL. Your web analytics attributes the resulting sessions to the correct source, medium, and campaign.
